Maine Maritime Academy's Department of Continuing Education (originally known as the Ocean Institute) was founded more than 40 years ago as the public outreach and auxiliary enterprise of Maine Maritime Academy. Continuing Education instructors come from MMA faculty, staff and professional partner organizations. In addition to STCW coursework, broadly related maritime or general education courses and uniquely requested corporate training programs may also be offered as they serve the mission and extended community of Maine Maritime Academy. In 2009 MMA-CE served more than 800 students in face to face delivery programs. For additional information please contact:

- Maritime Transportation & Security Act- International Ship & Port Facility Security Code (MTSA - ISPS) security classes, certification, and training
- New course offerings are being developed continually.
- CEU's are available for all courses.

Merchant Mariner license holders must contact the US Coast Guard directly for particulars concerning their license upgrade or recertification questions:
Ongoing and by appointment classes are available:
- Radar Recertification: Regularly scheduled instruction, usually for the 3rd Saturday of each month, at 0900: Cost is $225.00 for classes of two students or more. Private, one-on-one instruction at $375.00 per person may be requested and is dependent upon instructor availability.

- Visual Communication (Flashing Light): Call MMA at 207-326-2211 for an appointment to take the test Cost: $180.00 individual only.
- iNarte/FCC exams: MMA Proctors iNarte/FCC exams. You must call iNARTE at 1-800-89-NARTE/62783 to arrange for the test and then call MMA at 207-326-2211 to schedule a proctor. Cost: $55
- STCW Basic Safety Training COURSES (4)
These four modules are scheduled over a five day period. Students
may select from one through four of the modules within the BST framework
though full course enrollees will be given space preference. Module
enrollment options vary. See the monthly course listings.

Accommodations and Hospitality
- Rooms are available at the Academy @ $65 / night/single, $75night/double for a twin bed room, $85 for a double bed (Rm. 303) on the third floor of Leavitt Hall. These are comfortable private guest rooms each w / private bath, telephone, radio, TV and internet. Check in is 1 pm. Check out is 10 am.
- Meals at our Campus Dining Center can be purchased individually on a walk in basis:
- Breakfast - $8.25 Lunch - $9.25 Dinner - $13.50
- Sunday Brunch before 10:30am - $8.25 After 10:30am - $9.25
